Lab 1-A

cattle grazing

Cow Farm

Cropping

The assignment for this lab was to acclimate to Photoshop, learn how to open files, learn how to save files, and learn how to resize and crop images. The specific requirement for this lab and all other labs (aside from Lab 5) was to keep the final image size at or under 800 px on the longest side.

I chose an image of cattle because that was just the first thing that popped into my head. I cropped the image to center the foremost cow and keep the horizon within the top third of the frame.

Detailed Steps
  1. Open the original image file.
  2. In the top bar: Image > Image Size
  3. Keep Width/Height locked. Change units to pixels. Change Width to 700 px.
  4. Press C for the Crop Tool. Click and drag over the cows (450 x 390 px).
  5. Shift+Ctrl+S to Save As a Photoshop file (.psd).
  6. In the top bar: File > Export > Export As
  7. Change the format to JPG. Click Export.
