My Favorite Beaches in Rio

Ipanema

place 1

Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.

Leblon

place 2

Leblon is sitting just west of Ipanema Beach, Leblon beach is fronted by high-class hotels as well as gourmet restaurants, sophisticated bars, shopping malls and exclusive boutiques. This beach sits in a wealthy district of upper class high rises and is more subdued and sophisticated than its neighbor, Ipanema.

Copacabana

place 3

The Copacabana Beach stretches for over 5 kilometers and beckons one and all to its alluring waters. Sun, sea and beautiful bodies are what represent the pleasure-seeking side of the neighborhood. The magnificent Sugar Loaf Mountain and Morro do Leme look resplendent in the background presenting a picture perfect landscape that lures tourists from all over the globe. As far as hospitality goes, you can always expect the very best at Copacabana, with hotels, bars and restaurants known for their exemplary service.

Barra da Tijuca

place 4

Barra da Tijuca or simply known as Barra is the youngest neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. This neighborhood is famous for its Barra Shopping Mall which houses over 700 stores and restaurants and its 17 km long sandy beach. Barra is home to many luxury condominiums and large office complexes, making it an emerging spot for the rich and affluent. The neighborhood is also known for its American influenced lifestyle. Surfing, kite surfing and body surfing are popular sports here.
